2017 has been a fun and exciting year for me.  It’s hard to believe that in March it will be two years since I returned from the States, where I completed a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. This year I have been working as a Data Scientist at Datamine, an analytics consultancy based in Parnell. Data Science is a field that combines mathematics, scientific methods, and computer science to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms. My work is heavily focussed on the programming and development aspect of Data Science, which fits well with my academic experience. It’s a fun role and I am learning new things every day!

I am also really enjoying being immersed back into New Zealand life. I love the outdoors, so every weekend I am off hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and exploring. We are very lucky to have such an incredible environment literally on our doorstep, and I appreciate this even more after living in the big hustle and bustle of LA for four years. I have this big long list of places to see and cool things to do in New Zealand, so I am excited to see what adventures 2018 will bring!
