Getting To Know: Simon Watts

Simon is one of our most recent members at the North Harbour Club, and we hope to see him at an event in the near future!

Simon had a rural upbringing, being born in the Waikato – Cambridge, where his family were farmers and orchardists. He went on to study accounting and finance at the University of Waikato before starting his career at Deloitte, qualifying as a chartered accountant.

Simon then embarked on an OE, ending up in London, where he worked for one of the world’s largest investment banks for nine years (during and after the global financial crisis).

When Simon returned to New Zealand in 2013 he undertook a Bachelor of Health Science at AUT, gradating in 2015, this enabled him to also practice as a volunteer frontline ambulance officer with St John.

Simon had been employed by the Waitematā DHB, in the position of Deputy Chief Financial Officer, since 2016, with the responsibility for supporting the CEO, Board and Executive team on strategic, financial and commercial matters. The DHB employs over 7,000 staff with an almost $2 billion budget.
